The rough electric is being installed this week. They are about halfway done now and working hard to try and finish this coming week. Way back at the beginning of the build process, before we closed on the construction loan, we provided the builder some “electric plans” so that a quote could be put together. The quote was used to determine the budget for the project that we provided to the bank.
We had some special requests for the electrical plan so I decided to try and draw up a plan that would help explain our desired lighting and outlet locations. I found some charts on the Internet showing common electrical symbols used in electric plans. Here is one of the better charts:
I ended up using some of those symbols combined with my own made-up symbols and colors to create the drawings below:
Fast-forward about 5 months…..these same drawings were used as a reference as we did the walk-through with the master electrician. During the walk-through he recommended a few changes and we had a few minor changes we wanted to make as well. We walked through the entire house and the electrician made marks on the wall to remind him of light/outlet/switch placement.
When we stopped by the site today we were able to see almost all of the outlet boxes, switch boxes, and lighting mounts in place and wires were running all over the house!
Here are a few pictures of the rough electric that has been installed so far:
While all the electric is being installed the builder is still making progress on the exterior of the house as well. The next post for the Building Our Dream Home series of posts will likely be pictures of the installed siding and exterior trim.
