It really is daunting to design a home from scratch. There are so many possibilities, and beginning with a blank slate can be intimidating.
But beginning with a blank slate can also be PERFECT IN EVERY WAY! Because you can design a home exactly how YOU want it!
After searching far and wide for the perfect house plan, we discovered that there just wasn’t something out there that met all of our needs and our aesthetic desires. Many houses came close, but there was always something not quite right about the design (usually on the inside). So, we rolled up our sleeves and got to work combining elements of many homes we loved.
Here are some of the pictures of homes that inspired us along the way.
This is the home that started it all. It was the featured Coastal Living Idea House for 2001. It is also known as the Carolina Island House. I instantly fell in love with the character of this home and put it in my archives! If you click on the link to the left, you can view interior photos on Southern Living’s site.
Historical Concepts has also redesigned this house to make a larger version … that version is the New Carolina Island House. It has a somewhat different layout, and a roomier footprint.
We even took a special trip to Habersham community in Beaufort, South Carolina to see the exterior of this home in person.
While strolling that charming neighborhood, we also came across this beauty.
I later discovered that this was the Broad Street House by R.N. Black Associates, Inc.
I also fell in love with a similar plan called Vintage Lowcountry House by Group 3 Designs.
Another favorite was Captain’s Watch by Historical Concepts.
While researching many plans, I soon discovered that I was often a fan of the same architectural groups over and over again:
A new-found friend on GardenWeb, (redheadeddaughter), also introduced me to Madson Design, which I also like very much! They have two very lovely plans that served as inspirations. Thank you so much, redheadeddaughter!
Here are some other Farmhouse Pics I’ve collected along the way. Enjoy!
