We had the pleasure of visiting Southern Living’s 2013 Idea House in Nashville last weekend. What a treat! Though it was a bit of a hike for us, it was worth the trip to see similar architecture and styles of the home we are designing.
The home is a bit different from a conventional idea home because it was designed to function as a bed and breakfast after the feature is over. The main house has only one bedroom and no second floor even though it is massive. There is also a separate guest cottage, two bunk houses, and a carriage house with accommodations above. It is breathtaking and its design is perfect for the intended objective. It was designed by one of my very favorite architectural firms, Historical Concepts. Once again, they have knocked it out of the park!
My favorite detail of the home was the trim work – simple, crisp, clean, and unfussy. It was substantial and understated at the same time. Perfect.
Some of my other favorite items were the Bevelo lighting everywhere, and the Wolf range.
I was also trying to get ideas for paint colors while I was there. The source guide provided specifics of materials and colors used. I loved the color white that was used throughout – Moderate White by Sherwin Williams. I picked up a sample at our local store as soon as we returned. In reality it may be a bit too creamy for what I am after….but a lovely color nonetheless.
I would love to share more pictures of our visit with you, but photos were prohibited until the August issue of Southern Living has been published. You can check out some of Southern Living’s pictures and videos of the home here.
If you get the opportunity to visit this home, it is definitely worth the effort. The pictures don’t even come close!
